Five offline RPGs that respect your time
Offline RPGs are a strange corner of the store. Half the good ones want you online for no clear reason, and half the truly offline ones feel like they were made in a weekend. But there's a solid middle, and it's where I've spent a lot of evenings.
The trick is turn-based or pausable combat. Games like Emberfall Saga let you stop at any moment, which is exactly what you need when your stop is coming up. Real-time RPGs on phones tend to punish interruptions, and interruptions are the whole point of mobile.
Look for local saves too. If a game insists on an account before you can even see the menu, that's a bad sign for offline play. The best ones store everything on your device and let you get on with it.
My advice: download the big ones over Wi-Fi, keep your expectations reasonable about controls, and give the first hour a fair shot. Mobile RPG combat feels awkward until it clicks, and then it really clicks.
